What the Queens say ?

The Queens’ Tea has been a safe space for me to be authentically me! It’s been a gateway to unapologetically celebrate sisterhood. The networking and empowering each other to just BE is acceptance and inclusivity at its finest! This uplifting space allows us to be vulnerable and adjusts each others’ crowns because sometimes the jewels and adornments we carry are too heavy to carry alone. It’s been a space for healing my inner child and the daughters of my sisters. We laugh, we cry, then laugh some more. This organization embodies sisterhood, community, and creativity. I love being a horn-tooting member! We wear our crowns together, we shine together!

Why do women get together for gatherings? Some would say "its the gossiping that gives me the thrill."Some would say,"its dressing up and seeing my friends."Others might say," I don't get out much so I attend gathering to keep me in tune with the community." All of these reasons may suit one person or another, but I attend the Queens Tea to get a inspirational shot. The drama of any day, the rigor of a daily schedule, the house work and the job can all leave me depleted. The Tea gives me a chance to straighten my crown remind myself that life is worth smiling at. But most of all bonding with women that have been here, there, and everywhere! educated or not. Motivation can come in all shapes and sizes and thats what the Tea does for me.At the Tea I remember pray works, reflection works, patience works, endurance works, and as women we must turn that frown upside down and act like royalty. I definitely enjoy the Queens Tea

“True” Francois. I first attended the tea in person in 2019. It was at the Dusit Thani hotel in Abu Dhabi. Based on its reputation, I anticipated being surrounded by empowered and empowering women, and I was not disappointed. The celebrations of women in Abu Dhabi blazing trails in their respective fields was indeed inspiring. The guest speakers gave us a great jumpstart in pursuing our own goals. And perhaps my favorite part, the ability to support black businesses on Arabian soil was unlike any other. I was enamored for sure. Then Covid came along and we all froze in place. But that only meant for the Queen’s Tea what it meant for everything else: let’s take it online. It was still fun and inspiring. Did we miss seeing each other in person? Yes, of course. But it was still so important to keep this powerful gathering going. Spirits needed every beautiful and encouraging space possible. This Tea is certainly that. The latest iteration I attended was in June of this year (2023), and it was its own kind of wonderful. A more intimate event, each woman was able to talk to the others and encouraged to “toot her own horn.” That can feel overwhelming. Insecurities arise in these moments. How big a horn should I toot? What if I sound too egotistical? Or am I proud of anything in particular right now? Can I get a lifeline? Do I have a choice in this matter? It didn’t matter. We ALL gave voice to our accomplishments in some way. We all celebrated the heck out of each other. We walked away feeling stronger, more beautiful, and more grateful. Maybe challenged to go after that which would make us proud, given the chance to brag on ourselves next time. Stories were told. Connections were made, and bonds were solidified. Tears were shed. It was one of the nicest thing I’ve seen all year. Kudos to Michelle for being a visionary.
